Keeping active is such an important part of my life, not just for the physical benefits it provides, but also for the positive results that go hand-in-hand mentally, as well. There are so many ways that staying fit can help our bodies, especially during certain times of the month, if you know what I mean?! I’m talking menstrual cycles, ladies. I’m sure we can all relate… feeling a bit bloated, sluggish and not-so-motivated, right? But, I have to say, whenever I push myself to get out and get physical, it really makes a difference.
I find that light running, or even a brisk walk can do the trick to keep my body balanced and hormones under control. And, a little extra core work each week helps to tighten and tone abs and battle the bloat. I like doing 30-60 second planks, side planks and simple crunches (50), even if I only have fifteen minutes to spare.
Stretching before (and after) any activity helps to warmup muscles and then cool down your heart rate. Try deep high lunges to open the hips and hamstrings before a walk or run along with basic toe touches and side twists. (About 5-7 minute warmup total)
And always remember to breathe!
So, give it a try this month, even if you’re totally unmotivated. I promise, a little extra movement, breathing and some upbeat tunes will keep your mood (and your booty) lifted.
