Let’s keep up the momentum and give it our all in 2016! As you know, I’m all about making fitness a regular part of my life and even more so now, trying to spice up my sweat sessions to stay motivated outside the gym. So, for the New Year, I’ve partnered with eBay to empower you to motivate and discover the “new you” by getting in shape. From cooking, to fitness, to photography and more, eBay’s Starter Kits offer a curated assortment of must-haves for any passion. I’ve picked out a few key fitness accessories and new gear from their Fitness Starter Kit to work on a new routine and to make #FIT happen in style, on a budget.
Here’s a few fun ways to burn some calories and have fun with fitness. (Pictured Above)
Let’s start with a simple 2-3 minute warm-up jog then add light 2lb weights to keep arm muscles engaged. You can do this outside in a park, or if it’s way too cold, try modifying indoors and run in-place or do high knee raises for about a minute instead to get your heart rate up. Then stand with feet hips width apart and slightly bent and lets start to focus on triceps, biceps and all-around arm toning for about 5 minutes.
Biceps:
Lift and extend arms out to your side, palms facing forward and elbows bent at 90 degrees. Keep your shoulders down and your wrists in line with your elbows.
Rotate arms so your elbows are moving to meet in front of you. Keep your muscles engaged, and move back to starting position.
Do 10 sets of 10
Next hold your weights extending arms straight out in front of you, palms facing up.
Bring your arms up into a right angle then release them back into the starting position.
Do 5 sets of 10
Triceps:
Hinge forward from your hips, bend elbows 90 degrees, then unbend your elbows to extend both arms straight back, palms facing each other and squeezing your triceps. Return to starting position.
Do 3 sets of 10.
Next, lets’ play ball! I love having an exercise ball around, especially in my apartment on cold winter days. You can get a full body workout with a few simple moves indoors, or out.
To work on both my arms and my core, I love to do ball pikes. Begin with your hands on the floor in a pushup position, your back straight and your feet resting on top of the ball. Then use your feet to roll the ball towards your chest, raising your hips towards the ceiling (or sky) into a pike position while keeping your legs fully extended. Roll back to your starting position and repeat as many times as you can! This is also a great way to practice proper hip and shoulder alignment and to build strength for handstands too!
I’m also a fan of ball crunches to put less pressure on my back and to really focus on engaging my key core muscles.
You can play around with lots of options to create your own ball routine and make fitness more fun!
These are just a few ideas to get you going, but to let you have your own workout adventure, I’m GIVING AWAY a set of weights, one excercise ball, and a water bottle from eBay’s Fitness Starter Kits to one lucky fitness follower and their friend to keep you all motivated!
