Kickstart

Kickstart 2016 on the right foot. It’s time to wipe the slate clean and reboot your regime. From healthy eating, to smart skincare and simple ways to stay fit, you can quickly see positive results if you stick with a routine that makes sense for you. So, I wanted to share a few of my go-to steps that I follow to maintain a healthy lifestyle without feeling too overwhelmed in the process.

From the minute we wake up in the morning, we can start making smart choices. I like to drink a full glass of water, even before my coffee and breakfast, then, it’s time to fuel-up. I get my spinach, banana, and berries ready to blend up a smart smoothie with flaxseed and almond milk to jumpstart my metabolism and get energized. Whether I’m running around the city on fashion appointments, hosting a TV segment, or styling a photoshoot, I always need to stay hydrated and nourished to prevent my energy levels from dipping. Stashing almonds and water in my bag to snack on between meals is always a great pick-me-up when I’m on the go.

I try to fit in at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day, no matter what challenges come my way. Whether it’s a brisk walk at lunchtime, a long run at sunset, or a rejuvenating yoga class to unwind and reset after a hectic day, taking some time to motivate and move my muscles can really affect my mind and body in a positive way. It’s also a great sleep-aid for those of you who have restless nights. I always get such a deep sleep when I stick to a regular fitness schedule and a healthy menu.

Skincare is another biggy for me. Having a simple, yet effective routine that works with your skin type and schedule will allow you to stay on track and committed to your regime. I usually have to adjust the products that I use when the seasons change, especially as harsh winter months set in. For cold, windy days I always look for a more soothing moisturizer or facial oils to minimize tightness, but it’s also important to exfoliate dry skin first, so that hydrating products can be easily absorbed. So I like to do a deep exfoliating facial scrub at least two to three times a week with RoC Resurfacing Disks. It helps to remove dirt and makeup but also gently smooths the texture of my skin leaving me with a healthy glow even in freezing temps!

There are lots of little ways we can alter our daily habits to help lead healthier lives. Just remember to gradually move into any new routine and try to stick with it, even if you don’t see results right away. Be patient, stay focused and set your goals for a new year and a new you!
